Nutrition Garden

Food security is of great concern to the developing countries like India. Consuming adequate quantity of good quality food not only makes a healthy body but also creates a healthy mind which leads to a healthy and efficient labour force. However, food is not adequately available to all. Many people suffer from the problem of food insecurity. A sizeable proportion of population is starving in India. The most vulnerable are poorer sections of the population in States like West Bengal and more particularly the tribal community.

DBDOC promoted Nutrition Garden is known to be one of the best solutions to tackle the difficult issue of malnourishment. A nutrition garden appropriately utilises space at Farm Field School and Boarding Centers to grow fruits and vegetables that can not only sustain the tribal children, but also support their dietary requirements. Seasonal vegetables are grown by utilising locally available waste and other materials as manure or fertiliser. They can be used for long periods to fulfill the daily needs of the center.
