About Us

Imagine a world where every child receives an inclusive and quality education, where everyone can access economic opportunities and secure stable livelihoods, where everyone can access to clean drinking water and sufficient health care facilities, where everything is powered by 100% renewable electricity, and where no one goes to sleep on an empty stomach. We are striving to create an inclusive, equitable, safe and sustainable world like this.

Don Bosco Development Society – Culcutta (DBDOC), a not-for-profit organization aspires to change the lives of the underprivileged by enhancing their dignity and well-being. Established in 1997, DBDOC was created with the aim of eradicating poverty, ignorance and malnutrition among poor and marginalized communities.

Inspired by the Founder Don Bosco, the social development wing of the Salesian Province of Kolkata is dedicated to catalyzing social and economic change so that all human beings must have the same opportunity to succeed in life, irrespective of where they were born or live. DBDOC acts as a catalyst to bring about changes in the lives of underprivileged children, youth and families as a whole by empowering and enabling them to ensure inclusiveness, equality and dignity at par with society.

With a mandate to achieve inclusive and sustainable development in the region, DBDOC is also contributing to the larger context of national and global priorities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its interventions in a results-based approach. Due to the interlinked nature of the SDGs, many of DBDOC’s activities contribute to more than one SDG.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission

ENHANCE wellbeing and resilience among people living in poverty.
PROMOTE societies that value, protect and advance holistic development of the poor.
CREATE opportunity for individuals, organizations and states to bring about lasting changes in the lives of underprivileged children, youth and families.

Our Vision

We share the vision of St. John Bosco, in being signs and bearers of God’s love to the young, especially the poor and marginalized. With responsibility, accountability and utmost dedication, we wish to empower the youth with knowledge, skill and values for a better tomorrow.

What we do

Don Bosco Development Society, Culcutta (DBDOC) is committed to enhancing the quality of life of people from marginalized and vulnerable communities, by empowering them and catalyzing change through innovative and sustainable solutions. We consistently work to realize this mission in collaboration and partnership with our stakeholders, including governments, corporates, past pupils, individuals and the community. With a profound intent and commitment to make a difference, DBDOC critically looks at the cause as well as the consequences and then develops a holistic model with an integrated approach which are sustainable, replicable and scalable to address the multifaceted development challenges of marginalized communities.

Being an organization of Don Bosco family, there is no doubt about that youth particularly, who are at risk, are always close to our heart. But when the whole community around them is struggling with multidimensional social issues and challenges, it is equally important to intervene in other causes that hinder the development of the community at large. We expanded our areas of interventions to education, food security, health and nutrition, tribal development, women empowerment, green energy and prison ministry. With this mission, we are not only impacting the lives of people and communities through sustainable programs but at the same time contributing towards the larger development goals.
