World Population Day is an annual commemoration held on July 11th, to highlight the pressing issues stemming from the growing global population and the depletion of resources. It is to raise awareness and educate individuals about the challenges and consequences associated with global population growth
In line with the 2023 theme, “Unleashing the Power of Gender Equality: Uplifting the Voices of Women and Girls to Unlock Our World’s Infinite Possibilities,” DBDOC advance to create a more just, resilient and sustainable society. It conducted an awareness session for underprivileged women, focusing on combatting gender-based discrimination and promoting education, healthcare, and reproductive rights.
During the session, participants were motivated to take small steps towards self-empowerment and ensuring that their girl children are not subjected to discrimination. Emphasis was placed on the importance of providing adequate healthcare, education, and nutritious food to newborns for a healthy future. Women were made aware of their ability to shape the destiny of their children and encouraged to become catalysts of positive change within their families. They were explained that despite making up 49.7% of the population, women and girls are often disregarded in demographic discussions, facing limited opportunities and increased vulnerability.
World Population Day highlights these issues and aims to create a sustainable future aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. DBDOC observed this day with a vision of equal opportunities and boundless potential for all individuals, regardless of gender.
