The state of Bihar is a very backward state in almost all the aspects as in
education, communication and roads etc. Unemployment is rampant and a sizable portion of the population has migrated to the adjacent states like West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh. However, the educational scenario in the state is very dismal. The ratio of female education is very low and most of the girls dropped out of the school when they reach class VIII as many of them are married off at an early age so that they do not become a burden to their parents. Grown up girls are in danger exposed to trafficking and sex-exploitation due to poverty and ignorance.

The Salesians of Don Bosco of Kolkata Province are engaged in educational and
developmental activities among the tribal and the marginalized of the society in West Bengal, Bihar, Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand and Nepal. A Don Bosco School was started in 1985 to bring about education among the poor and neglected tribal population of the Purnea district. Don Bosco School in Purnea has brought about some transformation in the society. Education has opened the closed minds of the rural set up and they are willing to send the girls for higher education. Over the years the school has educated mainly poor boys due to the social bias which discouraged girls to go for higher education. Over 1100 students have enrolled in the Don Bosco School in which more than 200 girls now and it is increasing year by year.

The increase in the number of girls seeking higher education is on the increase which is indeed very salutary and welcome. We want to provide better facilities for toilets /washrooms. We have adjusted the class rooms to accommodate additional number of girls. However we are finding it difficult to provide them sufficient toilet facilities with our limited resources. We are planning to construct 10 toilets of size (5ft X 6 ft). We need support from generous donors to construct these toilets.
