17th and 18th of November 2022, Don Bosco Development office Calcutta conducted an Awareness Session for 85 women dwelling in the slums of Tangra. It was organised to sensitize these women on the critical issues of Tobacco de-addiction and the Prevention of Child marriage.
The sudden rise of death and severe illness due to tobacco consumption alarmed us deeply to educate the group about the dangerous health hazards they have to face on consuming tobacco in any form. The ways of refraining own-self from such addiction were also discussed. They were advised to counsel their family members who are into such addiction.
41.6% of the females residing in the slums are found to have been married before attaining adulthood. The adverse consequence of early marriage was brought before them by discussing real-life experiences. They were made to realize the importance of a girt to attain the minimum age of 18 along with self-dependency before getting married to lead a stable and healthy life.
